William was the son of "Sally" Hauser Flynt, the daughter of Revolutionary War soldier Colonel George Hauser, Jr. (Sandy and Sanford, twins, were the first born of William and Elizabeth Ballard Flynt's eleven children). Young William served as sher.  of Forsyth County for several years.
