1901 Zon-O-Phone Concert Grand Phonograph + Horn Berliner Gramophone Era Nice!

$ 530.64

Availability: 26 in stock
  • Condition: Condition of the phonograph is very good overall, with hardly any gear noise. It has only one replica part in the whole apparatus (the horn support elbow I fashioned myself); everything else is original and authentic! Both of the original cabinet decals are in excellent condition, with almost no scratches or scraping. Almost no damage to the wood whatsoever; it really displays wonderfully! Nickel plating on both arms is worn and pretty rusted, pitted, and flaking on parts. The wood on the crank handle is in excellent condition! The polished horn is also split at the seam about halfway up, with a few small dents around the end of the horn, and a few remaining tarnished and stained spots. Some light tarnish on the bedplate. Gear mechanism is reasonably clean, freshly oiled, and the spring on the turntable is still very "springy"! Green turntable felt is in decent condition, with scattered staining and a few small tear marks. Reproducer is original but I don't have a way of testing it.

    Description

    Here is a very early (1901-02), antique "Zon-O-Phone Concert Grand" disc phonograph (record player), made by the "Universal Talking Machine Co." of New York City, with a 10" turntable, an original (and, I think, working!) V Concert sound box, a beautiful rectangular dark mahogany stained cabinet, and a brilliantly shiny 30" brass horn.
    Condition of the phonograph is very good overall, and for a 120-year-old front-mount phonograph, it runs remarkably well, with hardly any gear noise. It has only one replica part in the whole apparatus (the horn support elbow I fashioned myself); everything else is original and authentic, and appears to be in working condition!
    Both of the original cabinet decals are in excellent condition, with almost no scratches or scraping. Almost no damage to the wood whatsoever; it really displays wonderfully. Nickel plating on both arms is worn and pretty rusted, pitted, and flaking on parts, as you can see in the photographs. The wood on the crank handle is in excellent condition! The horn is also split at the seam about halfway up from the bottom, but this does not affect function in any way. Some light tarnish on the bedplate, but overall this is very clean. Gear mechanism and all moving parts are reasonably clean, freshly oiled, and the spring on the turntable is still very "springy"! I can send a video of this showing its functionality if you would like to see the phonograph in action. Original green turntable felt is in decent condition, with scattered staining and a few small tear marks, but no significant deterioration.
    The V Concert reproducer is original and appears to be working, but I don't have a way of testing it, and it is quite stained/tarnished (see pics). There is also an old needle in the receiver, but it looks quite dull, and I don't have a fresh one to replace it with. So you will need a new one. The diaphragm on the reproducer is still intact, and the needle attachment is still glued in place on it, making its output amplification quite good. But since I don't actually have a record or new needle to test it with, I can't say for sure how loud or clear the sound will actually be.
    The 30" brass horn has been polished, and it's really quite beautiful! It does have a few small dents around the end of the horn, and a few remaining tarnished and stained spots. And like I mentioned earlier, it is splitting at the seam about halfway up from the elbow. But it is still sturdy and projects sound very well!
